The Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) has an ageing population who want to stay healthy and well and living independently in their own homes. The estimated number of people aged over 6o years in the region in 2014 was 229,084, or 21.7% of the total EMR population. We expect that this will increase by almost 67,000 to a total of 295,757 by 2026.
Healthy Ageing Paper
In April 2018 the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) completed a healthy ageing paper for IEPCP that explores the theoretical frameworks, strategic and legislative context, factors influencing healthy ageing, interventions and impact.
Health and wellbeing needs of older people in the Eastern Metropolitan Region
In 2016, the Inner East Primary Care Partnership completed a report about the Health and Wellbeing Needs of Older People in the Eastern Region of Melbourne.
This report used the World Health Organisation approach to healthy ageing which considers that a person’s ability to live the life they value is determined by both their intrinsic capability—the personal, health and genetic characteristics within them—and the environment in which they live.
Healthy Ageing is now featured on the shared PCP platform The Well.
The Well is designed to inform planning and action and to help measure success.
