Regional Consultations: Community Services Industry Planning

Victoria has a mature and vibrant community and social services sector, with a proud history of supporting people experiencing poverty and disadvantage. However, the sector is entering a time of significant change driven by State and Commonwealth Government reforms, as well as social and economic factors. It is critical that planning for the industry is undertaken collaboratively to ensure the sector can maximise the opportunity of the reforms, manage the impact of changes and meet increasing demand for services.

The Victorian Council of Social Service, Department of Health and Human Services, Victorian community sector and Health and Human Services Partnership Implementation Committee (HSHPIC)  are working collaboratively to develop the Community Service Industry Plan (CSIP) for Victoria, based on 10 key priority focus areas. These include:
• workforce of the future
• place-based systems and services
• client-centred services
• strengthening outcomes
• flexible, person-centred funding models
• information sharing and technology innovation
• organisational and industry readiness
• embedding evidence
• governance and leadership and regulatory frameworks

The CSIP will provide an overarching ‘helicopter’ view of the major trends and strategies that will impact on all sectors over the next decade, and assist in planning for the future community services plan for the state. It will be designed to complement and frame, not replace, sector specific industry plans.

Community Services Industry Planning – Regional Consultations during October

The community services industry, which includes areas such as disability, youth, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, drug and alcohol, family violence, LGBTI, community legal, migrant and multicultural, and out-of-home care, is entering a time of significant change driven by a number of State and Commonwealth government reforms, as well as social and economic factors.

To ensure the sector can maximise the opportunity of the reforms, manage the impact of changes and meet increasing demand for services, the Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Victorian community sector are working to develop a 10 year Community Services Industry Plan for Victoria.

This will create an overarching vision for the future, as well as address the effects of the range of reforms across the wider community services industry.
To have your say on the Plan’s development, VCOSS and DHHS invite you to attend a regional consultation:
